An introduction to bicycles, providing a basis for further learning;

Trail Side
A useful course, full of information. Whether alone or cycling in a group, problems can occur whilst out on the hills. Tips, advice and problem solving to help get you out of a fix and home safely

Dr Bike
The National Cycling Academy can provide Dr Bike sessions for groups, businesses or organisations. Our mobile CYTECH Technicians travel to you with a full set of equipment and spares in order to carry out safety checks and minor repairs on your cycle. Giving advice about maintaining your bike and keeping it in tip top condition Available to book for events

Accredited Maintenance courses
We are currently able to offer two cycle related OCN (Open College Network) courses, the ten hour 'Basic Cycle Maintenance course and twenty hour 'Build a Bike' package.
Both courses can also be accompanied by a workshop health and safety qualification, which follows a twn hour course program.
OCN courses can open the door to employment, both within the cycle trade and in any field where hand tools are used.
Cycle maintenance courses can be delivered at our new workshop facility on Union Street, Oldham.
Basic Maintenance
Level one.
Credit value: One. 10 hours. (2x5hr sessions)
The learner will be able to:
1. Show awareness of workshop equipment and safe practice.
2. Recognize the rsange of maintenance needs for bicycles.
3. Prepare a bike for use and safe storage.
Build a Bike
Level One.
Credit value: Two. 20 hours (4x5hr sessions)
The learner will be able to show:
1. Be aware of the parts of a bike
2. Build a bike, using selected components.
3. Personalize the finished bike
4. Ensure the bike is roadworthy.
National Cycling Academy Coaches
Instructors are trained to CTC National Standards and have been involved in the Bikeability pilot scheme
All of our coaches hold enhanced CRBs and up-to-date First Aid Certificates![]()
